Swedish National study on Aging and Care - Good Aging in Skåne
GÅS-SNAC-S is a longitudinal study on the influence of life-time environmental and biological factors on medical, psychological, and social health in late adulthood. It aims to increase the understanding of the aging process and to identify possible preventive strategies to improve the health and the care of older adults.

The participants are followed at ages 60, 66, 72, 78, 81, 84, 87, 90, 93, 96 and 99+ years. 60-78 years old are followed every 6 year and 81+ years old every 3 year from five municipalities including urban and rural areas from 2001.

GÅS-SNAC-S - Cohort 1
The GÅS-SNAC-S population consists of a random sample individuals of all ages living both at home and in institutions, in five municipalities in Skåne county: Malmö, Eslöv, Hässleholm, Osby and Ystad, covering urban and rural areas during a 3-year period (February 2001- June 2004).

The random sample from the Population Register was chosen in the national project SNAC and it was stratified for age cohort and year of assessment with oversampling of age cohorts 60 and respectively > 81 years of age. Nine age cohorts were chosen with six year intervals for younger cohorts and three years for older cohorts (>78 years), 60, 66, 72, 78, 81, 84, 87, 90 and 93.
