Northern Sweden MONItoring of trends and determinants in CArdiovascular disease (MONICA)
The objectives of this study are to:
- Describe trends and determinants in cardiovascular disease and diabetes in the northern Sweden population;
- Provide data for health planning, identify etiologic factors of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and characterize the interplay between determinants and;
- Describe level, time trends, and determinants of exposure to certain environmental pollutants and compare these to other regions.

Population surveys have been performed in 1986, 1990, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014. Another survey is planned for 2021. In 1999, all people invited to any of the three previous population surveys were re-invited for follow-up.
