Leipzig Longitudinal Study of the Aged
LEILA75+ is a prospective population-based cohort study on the epidemiology of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The aims of the study are to determine the prevalence and incidence of dementia and of MCI, as well as the occurrence of related conditions such as subjective cognitive decline, and to identify their risk factors.

Five follow-up assessments scheduled every 18 months. A final long-term follow-up was conducted 8 years after follow-up 5, for a total observation period of 16 years.

LEILA75 - Population
The population is made of community-dwelling individuals aged 75 years and over living in the community of Leipzig-South.

Institutionalized individuals were included in the study by proportion, because in the study area residential homes were over-represented and nursing homes were underrepresented.

Participants were identified by systematic random sampling from an age-ordered list provided by the official registry office for each of the seven sub-districts. Institutionalized individuals were included in the study by proportion. Sixty residential home residents and 132 nursing home residents were identified by systematic random sampling from an age-ordered list provided by the four institutions in the study area.
