Baseline participants that were recruited in 2001 were followed up in 2005-2006 and re-examination in 2014 -2016. After 14 years, a new a new cohort of younger individuals was added, the “Young Heart” study. Swedish disease registries and registry linkage for follow-up of morbidity and mortality has been being updated regularly.

* A population-based random sample of subjects aged 24–74 at the time of sampling by 1 April 2001 (n= 3614). * A case-control of Coronary heart disease (CHD) cases, 31–75 year old patients discharged from the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden (n=618). * First-degree biological relatives of cases with Coronary heart disease (CHD) (n=377). * Young Heart cohort. A new cohort of young subjects recruited in 2016.
