The population consists of pregnant women, early in their second trimester of pregnancy, English speaking, and residing within one of two Saskatoon and Moose Jaw health regions (Saskatchewan).

The study population was recruited from the community through posters in doctors’ offices, maternity stores, daycares, recreation facilities, and hospitals, as well as newspaper and radio ads, and word of mouth.
