Female Growth and Development Study
The main objective of the Female Growth and Development Study (FGDS) is to assess the consequences of child sexual abuse on female development in terms of physical health outcomes, intergenerational transmission, and the identification of mechanisms of resilience.
The specific objectives are:
* To examine continuity and change in trajectories of risk and resilience across the first half of the life course for sexually abused and comparison females.
* To describe the impact of childhood sexual abuse on key adulthood outcomes of major public health concerns, including domestic violence, psychopathology, substance abuse, adulthood autonomy, parenting, activity, sleep quality and quantity, and long-term physical health outcomes such as obesity and risk for HIV, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
* To describe the intergenerational transmission of the effects of childhood sexual abuse by examining the health and well-being of offspring, including their competencies, psychopathology, physical health, and histories of maltreatment.
* To enhance the tailoring, precision, and developmental sensitivity of targeted prevention and intervention efforts by identifying predictors and mechanisms operating throughout development that account for risk and resilient trajectories, key adulthood outcomes, and offspring well-being.
