Canadian COVID-19 Cohort Study: Study of the Epidemiology of COVID-19 in Canadian Healthcare Workers
The primary objectives of this study are to:
* Identify workplace (e.g., exposure to patients), community (e.g., rate of positive COVID tests), household (e.g., household crowding index), and personal (e.g., adherence to protective practices) risk factors for COVID-19 in HCWs;
* Assess whether one or more of three categories of putatively higher risk acute care hospital HCWs are indeed at higher risk of COVID-19 than other acute care hospital HCWs;
* Determine the incidence of symptomatic COVID-19 infection in HCWs;
* Estimate the incidence of asymptomatic COVID-19 infection in HCWs during the first pandemic season by measuring seroconversion to anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies; and
* Describe the intended and actual uptake of COVID-19 vaccines in HCWs.
Its secondary objectives are to:
* Determine the patterns of immune responses over time using dried blood spots (including post-vaccination); and
* Describe the psychological impact on HCWs during an outbreak of a novel respiratory virus.
Its exploratory objective is to:
1. Determine the incidence of reinfection,
2. Determine the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine(s).

- General Information on Follow Up (profile, frequency)
-
After enrollment, participants are followed-up for 12 months with weekly reports, testing/illness reports, and periodic blood samples collection. Blood samples are collected at enrolment, following vaccination against COVID, after a positive respiratory test (PCR), and every 6 months thereafter to assess antibody levels.
